anyone know how to fix carbon fiber??
I have jonjon83's old seibon CF front lip. As you may know, it's cracked. I went to m1 autobody today and they quoted me $250 to fix and repaint. They even said that they can't paint it perfectly.
My question is, how can I fix it myself so that I can just pay for painting??
I know I can use bondo and some fiberglass but where can I get these?
*will post pictures of the lip later tonight*
Thanks

Are you trying to keep the CF weaves? if so that might get costly. But if your trying to just repair the fiberglass, and eventually repaint the whole front lip its pretty easy.
Its basically cut out the section thats damaged, sand the area, lay new fiberglass mat and lay resin.Once dry, just sand it smooth and coat it with bondo for paint.
If you want to do gel coat instead of bondo, you will need to do the gelcoat first before laying fiberglass.
its really not hard, but it may take some time. For materials, you can go to kragen(any autoparts store) or Kragen,OSH etc.. For flat areas, i recommend getting a fiberglass roller,so there isnt any air pockets to weaken the fiberglass. Go to youtube/google and search it up, thats how i learned( plus trial and error ) MAKE SURE you wear gloves and get a mask!!

You can get bondo and fiberglass at any autoparts store. Get the mat, resin, and some bondo and you're all set. You can even get the stuff at most Home Depot's or Lowes. It's great for small projects. If you want to do larger projects, it can be pricey. But for fixing a lip spoiler, it's good.

Andrew, imo $250 is actually a good price, M1 painted my front lip for 200. So i guess the 50 bucks is the repair fee?
If you repair your own, you have to buy the supplies, take the time to do it and might have a chance to screw things up unless you have past experience in body work.
I would say take the lip to M1.
