ML Nav DVD player no longer works... help me find a part! (updated)
Background:
I have had my car since 2006, I did the navigation hack (Cut and grounded the parking wire), and installed a Vaistech IPOD kit. From 2006-2008 CD player / DVD player worked fine. IPOD worked fine, everything was A OK!
Starting a few months ago (and 60K miles later) the CD changer started acting weird. It would spit out CD's when I turned my car on, it would make weird cd changing noises when I wasn't using the player, it was just acting weird. I emptied the CD player, and still had the weird noises... but I was still able to play cd's / dvds
It's been a while since I did this, and the weird cd changing noises have stopped, but yesterday, I went to load a dvd, and the player wouldn't even load =/ It wouldn't eject, it wouldn't do anything. I couldnt' even switch to the CD player using the CD button (I can still switch to AUX and CD2 (my IPOD from teh Vaistech)).
So my dvd/cd player doesn't work anymore. I tried restarting my car multiple times, and still no response. What should I do?
A) Open up my console, remove the vaistech, and try the CD player by itself
A1) If it still doesn't work, try to fix the cut/grounded wire and take it into the dealer (out of warranty... wonder how much it will cost)
B) Just leave the car as is, and take it in
C) Is there a fuse that might be broken?
UPDATE
Took it to the dealership, they said the couldn't do anything cause I had the vaistech. I took out the Vaistech, and the cd/dvd player worked! for a whole two days... then it stopped working. Now it works once every 3-4 days. This leads me to believe I have a faulty connection? Maybe the cut wires are shorting or something. Either that, or my dvd player is busted and I need to get it replaced. Any ideas?

When you installed the Vaistech kit, were you careful to position the connector away from engine/transmission heat? I'm seen numerous pictures of deformed and partially melted connectors, so that would be the first thing I'd check.

By connector, do you mean the plug to the back of the nav unit? Or do you mean the plug to the silver box?
The silver box is located right under my shifter int he center console

Since I don't have the unit myself, it would probably be more helpful to simply post a link to someone else describing the problem: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...ml#post2051415

Thanks for the link. Looks like I'll be taking everything apart tonight to see what's going on in there. Hopefully the Cd player will work once the Vaistech is removed.

It's not the vaistech, I have replaced it, and the wiring harness for it and still no luck. It is either the cut wire for the nav hack/dvd hack, or it is the unit itself. I think I am going to buy this:
It's 800 bucks though =/
Anyone know where I can get it cheaper?

Well I plan on reconnecting the cut wires, and then patching it up as good as I can and taking to a second dealer
But I don't think it'll matter cause I'm out of warranty... already at 3 years/70k miles
