Default Oil Change - need clarification for TSIB EG018

Car: 07 IS250

Scenario: Only drive once a week, stays in garage when not driving

Mileage: driving 500-700 miles a month

What grade of motor oil should I use and change interval?

eh, burton, i'd suggest 5w20 or 0w20 in colder areas.

lexus uses 5w30 from the factory for all over the US so i wouldn't see why it's so wrong to use it.

No, the TSIB indicates that factory fill was changed to 5W20.

5w30 and 5w20 isn't much of a big difference. Especially in California you shouldn't have to worry about it.

Lighter oil weight = less friction

Therefore, the switch from 5w30 to 5w20 is for better gas mileage which gives you about only a extra 0.5-1 MPG per tank.

For a brief period in 2006.

The 07s (and 08s, and 09s) went back to 30 weight oil.

Physically looking at any newer IS? It's printed on the oil cap.

Reading the TSIB would work too, since it explicitly mentions it applies to 06s, was issued before 07s came out, and was never updated to include the newer years.

You also can see Joe Z and Lance discussing it in the quotes here:
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/4395425-post26.html

Joe corrects him on the fact that the TSIB is only for 06s, Lance looked into it a bit further and ends up confirming this fact.

yes better gas milage(5w20) but doesnt it decrease protection of your engine than the 5w30 since its thicker offering better protection to the engine? correct me if im wrong.
I called lexus of longo and cerritos here in cali and all the service guys tell me they are using 5w30..ive been using 5w20.. for about 2 years ill might change back to 5w30.
