Looking to buy an IS250 6 speed
I would like to introduce myself first as I'm new to the forum. My name is Erick from Miami, Florida.
I'm looking to buy a used 06-08 (depending on price) IS 250 6 speed. I wanted to ask if this car has any major issues that guys may know about. My friend that referred me to this forum told me they had an transmission problem and after searching I found that it's a flywheel issue. Now did Lexus ever fix this problem or did they ever sent out a service bulletin to their dealers. Another questing is the 6 speed worth finding as I haven't found many on the used car market. They are either the right exterior color but the wrong interior color ( I want all black interior). Another thing is if the 6 speed is not worth it how does the slushbox perform I really want the 6 speed as shifting gears is second nature to me . Take it I have an Integra that I will be retiring to a fun weekend car after I buy this ( tired of having to worry about theft with it) so if the 6 speed is too much of a problem I would settle of an auto.
Thank you to any one that replies to my thread and I look forward to being a part of this forum especially after I buy my car.

love my 6sp. If you like manual, get manual. I have not buy automatic car(maybe the GS one day). Search about 6sp. manual problems in this form. To me, it's not the best transmission but it's not something that turn me away from this car,so i got manual. I had to look for it for a long time too. SGM color and black interior. I got it for 2 years now, no tranny troubles. Thinking about F-sport clutch after warranty expire. Test drive both auto and manual if you have chance. Good luck.

hi, nukis, do u happen to know whether the height of the clutch is adjustable?
I just got my IS250 2009 few weeks ago...and my friend and I found that the clutch was a little bit too high.
I just wonder whether it is covered by the free first 1K service (which is coming up in 1 week).

AlienX, Yes the clutch pedal height and free play is adjustable. Now, it's not going to be much different than what you have now. Just ask you dealer. I had a very good experience with Lexus dealer. Everythings should be cover by the dealer if something wrong with the car and if you not happy with the car. Your 09 IS should have no problems. REMEMBER, you don't ask, you don't know.

I have a manual and not had any problems except for the occasional "jar of marbles" sound. I got use to it tho and it happens rarely to me. Most of us 08 owners are pretty happy with our cars but the 06-07 manual guys seem to have a ton of problems. My 2 cents.

Well I was looking into getting a used manual 07/08 but since it looks like Lexus has yet to acknowledge the flywheel problem. I might have to end up getting the slush box unless the car I drive shows no signs of this problem. One thing for a fact is that I want an IS, I've already looked into the G35 ( I don't like the interior), TL (tired of FWD, that's what I have my Integra for).

....I love my 6SPD and i never regret getting it.. after a few mods your going to like the on ramps to the freeways.. just let me tell you.
i have the same setup as Rob, and i waited 3 months ..1 month for them to actually build the car and 2 months for transit from osaka japan to toronto.
long wait but i was rewarded with the car i "want".. not the car i "got".

I have an 08 manual and I highly recommend that you get the manual. I got it brand new a year ago and I never get tired of driving it. adequate power and firm ride. my wife has 09 auto, and the drive feel is so different that it's almost as if driving a different car. manual is just a fun car to drive. also used manuals are going for low to mid 20k these days.
