Is that little leather key protector necessary?
I just got my 09 IS250 and I'm loving it
They put a little leather protector around my two keys, but I think it makes it feel much bulkier in my pocket. Do you guys all use it? Will the key transponder get really scratched up by the other keys without it? Thanks.

I use it, because as others have said it offers a modicum of protection and I like it. My wife also like her's for her ES. However, the pouch is not the same in all markets. Examples are - In japan they furnish a much nicer Key Fob cover than we get here. Sewell's sells it, I believe for something like $105.00. In Canada they do not furnish a key cover of any kind. So, I believe it's up to whoever makes the decision in the selling country as far as standard equipment and optional equipment is concerned.

it actually protects the key very well. I had my keys on the ground when i was playing basketball and i didnt notice the sprinklers turned on and soaked them pretty bad. The keys actually worked after and i think the leather helped protect/soak all the water.

What Lexus really needs to do it make the standard surface more grippy or rough. It's too smooth and slippery, causing the loss of grip when you are fumbling for keys. Audi, BMW, and other fobs come with a textured surface.

I took off the case that the dealer gave me. I do agree it does add a lil' more bulkiness, but from my first IS key fob.....the scratches was bothering me like crazy because of my other keys. So I got this as a gift from my aunt in Japan as a birthday present.
This pic came off Hapaboy's post, but my case looks exactly like this.
