Question What type of oil does the 2009 IS 250 originally come with?

Hey guys,

I got my new IS250 about 3-4 months ago and is in need of a oil change pretty soon. I was just wondering if anyone knows what type of oil is in the car when you purchase it brand new from the lexus dealership. Specifically if it is synthetic or non synthetic oil, but if you know what specific brand and any other info it would surely help. I heard that it is bad to put non synthetic oil in your car after you have used synthetic, so i wanted to be sure I was not doing this.

Any feedback and facts would be greatly appreciated
-Thanks

Not synthetic.

Also a myth that there's any problem mixing types- though you lose many of the "benefits" of synthetic by mixing you don't hurt anything on the car.

they also say you should make the switch from dino oil to synthetic (if you choose to go that route) at around 10,000 or 15,000 miles.

i can't remember.

But i don't think it hurts to switch sooner.

I think I switched at 8k

Get the free change and run it several thousand miles and then change to synthetic. A couple changes will help remove break-in debris and its free.

Why won't you get the free oil change, the reason it is free is because Lexus feels the first oil change is very important. I would definitely wait to use synthetic until your next oil change at 9 or 10k miles. It does NOT hurt to mix the two either. In fact Valvoline makes a semi synthetic oil which is about 40% synthetic and 60% mineral based. It is called Durablend I think.
