Will a 245/40/18 tire fit my rear 2IS wheels? 255/40/18 seems to have way fewer choices and the price jump is pretty significant. Could any potential problems occur?

It will fit your wheel but over the life of the tire will cost you more in reduced gas mileage & increased mileage acumulation on your odometer.

Always think of the cost of tires for the duration of the tires life. More expensive tires tend to last longer ( cheaper to use)

if you get those you better be dropped, the fender gap will be even worse than stock.

You should be fine considering that the stock 17" package comes with 245/45R17 has the same overall diameter as a 245/40R18.
