ou do know that most REAL racers (ppl who race brackets to top fuel) will take a auto over a standard in the quartermile ALL THE TIME
i drive a 350, yeah its a fairly quick pig. great for getting my groceries and mindlessly mashing the gas pedal when i need a quick rush.

^ it really depends on the car. The more sporty types like the M3, evo, sti...etc standard will be a better seller. The more luxury vehicle automatic will be a better seller....just imagine, how many people would buy a standard LS460?...probably none.

I know, the whole point was I disagreed with the comment regarding stock is350's are faster than stock evo/sti/335i in the 1/4.
I use to have a WRX and been in the whole subaru/rally scene for the past 3 years. dudes on nasioc are just as headstrong as dudes here regarding their cars. i was also in the market for an e46 m3/335i, and from my search and posts on those BMW forums, members were showing #'s from their stock cars hitting low to flat 13's.
i dont know how this thread became a auto vs stick thread.

sorry i did not say 'drivers' i said 'racers (from bracket to top fuel)' meaning ppl who actually build cars for 1/4mi racing, even F1 is autoboxes but w/e... *yawn* i give up, you're 2fast2furious for me pal...

are you catching feelings? please, real drivers will choose automatic over manuals? haha, now that's a funny fact, that is why when there is a car offered in stick & auto, guess which one has the better times? automatic wrx vs stick? smg m3 vs stick m3? please, that is why when there is a stick option it's always the #1 seller and all the slushboxes are left on the lot. dude, calm down. but I understand, the is350 is only offered in the slushbox, so the 350er's have to defend their cars cause this is clublexus.

If you didn't know, drag racer pick automatic because it shift faster. But if you want to track, then they will choose manual.
If you didn't know, SMG is faster than Manual. My 335i steptronic is faster than 335i manual on a drag strip.
What? 335i automatic sells more than 335i manual. Where are you getting your information from?
sounds like you should of got another WRX. You sound like a WRX guy stuck in a Lexus..

E46 SMG M3's are not faster than 6-Speed E46 M3's. We're not talking about the 335i.
335i sells more than the 6-speeds? I don't know about that, 6-speed 335i's are gone as fast they come in. When I was shopping for a BMW, all lots had the auto 335i, if i really wanted the 6-speed i would of had to special order one or have one delivered from another county or nearby state.
its whatever, i'm done here. the lexus is a super nice car and it does what it needs to do, so im a happy camper.

I've never really understood the obsession over low 0-60s and quarter mile times, especially when the absolute difference between a "fast" and "slow" car is like 1-2 seconds. Of all the things one could hand his ego hat on, how quickly his car can go is really kind of reaching. I suppose like any enthusiast hobby however, to each his own.
