2008 gear shift problem?
I bought 2008 IS350 3 weeks ago. It only had 90miles on it.
Now I realized that when I drive city, or when the gear changes from 1st to 2nd gear, the shifting is not smooth. It is a bit hard so that my head keep moves forward and back.
I usually let it **** between 2000rpm-2500rpm. I hear 'tuck dduck' sound when the gear changes....
Is this normal? Even my other $20,000 2007 accord shifts smoother than my new IS350....
Please let me know...It really bothers me....maybe I never revved more than 3000rpm yet? right now my car has 1034miles on it.

Doesn't sound right to me. Most all shifts should be pretty smooth with the IS tranny, except when you are AWOT (which you are not). I'd make an appointment and take it in to be checked out.

I also own a 2008 IS350(just got it two weeks ago). Mine had about 180 miles on it and from my understanding of Toyota/Lexus trannys is that they "learn" your driving habits at the very beginning and adjust accordingly. So the more agressive you drive...it may hold the gear longer resulting in jerkier shifts or for those granny drivers, it will shift sooner My IS already has started to shift sooner(less revving) and therefore feels smoother. I baby it now especially as it breaks in. I was told the same thing from a dealer about my Toyota 4runners I have owned(on my 3rd one).
Don't quote me on this but I am pretty sure these ECU trannys adjust to changes in driving habits hence the post above mentioning having the dealer reset the cars computer.

Mine has about 1062miles on it and it never wants to learn my driving habit.
I baby it too since it is still in brake-in mileage. Never revved more than 2500rpm yet.
Usually 2000rpm or less.
Does your move forward and back when you shift from Drive to Reverse? or R to D?
I can't wait to take it to the dealership on 23rd.....

Wow you really have been gentle on her, I brought mine up to 5000RPM just to stretch her legs a bit Only for a quick moment though......the honeymoon period is still ongoing!
As for my car moving when shifting as you described, it will like most cars if you dont have your foot on the brake or very gently but it should not be excessive by any means. Being its under warranty, its a good thing to have the dealer check things over just to be safe.
Hope things get figured out for ya!
