going to the track alittle scared!! Vs 335Xi, Mustang Gt
hey all i am planning on taking my baby to the track 1time... first thing first i wanna know what is ECT PWR to i keep it on or leave it on normal what does it do.. and does the tract control turn on after 3rd gear i did that and it went on when i hit 3rd gear but i kinda went slow i did not push it... those are my 2 questions about that how do they work and when should i use them...
anyways.. i am going to the track and i got buddies coming with me and they saying they can smoke me or beat me... anyways i have one
1.2008 BMW 335XI running ALL STOCK saying he can take me (Manual)
he got twin turbo 300HP and 300 Torque
2.2007 Ford Mustang GT V8 has a intake and exhaust i believe (manual) also
has 300 HP and 320 Torque
now do i have a chance with these guys or no plz tell me the truth or what do i need to beat them we are going in 3weeks or so i have time to get ready if anything i am thinking in putting a intake in.. ok ty guys

ok do this:
1) go with the least gas in the tank as possible (id say 1/8)
2) remove all engine covers as well as spare tire, jack and all floor mats including the trunk matt
3) bump your front tire psi to 40 and drop the rears to 35 psi
the race:
if its possible let the car cool down as much as possible, dont be reving up or leaving the car on, turn it off for as long as you can between runs.
1) completly turn off the VSC nd traction contro by (while being in a complete stop) press and HOLD the traction control button for about 5 seconds, the lights will come on. you will have to do this everytime you turn the car back on.
2) LEAVE THE CAR IN DRIVE
3) do not turn on the ECT, leave it normal
4)off course all windows up and roof closed
5) do a little burnout to clean the tires before the race
6)when you are on the line, power brake ut to around 1200-1300 rpm no more than that(you should practice this before you go race just so you get it right) then when the THIRD yellow light comes on punch the gas and let the brake go at the same time. do not wait for the green light. a good launch should have BARELY a LITTLE of wheel spin but depdnds on tires and the track, etc. if you are getting lots of wheel spin, then launch a little lower rpm
7) try to keep it on a straight line all the way down the track (DUH)
they have manual cars so they have to deal with the clutch. ANY mistake the make you have them beat by a car lenght. te pressure is on them ive raced manual cars and its so much harder.
depdnds on weather and track, but you should run mid high 13's. never hit the 14's unless you are at a high altittude track. if thats the case then you should beat the 335i since he has a the turbos.

some CL members with expertice have proven that ECT slows down the car on a straight line by switching gears at lower RPM than when the car is on drive. all it does is adjust the transmission for mroe agressive driving, it holds the gears, and changes the pedal feel. its been proven in the track.
if it makes you feel better try it. but you will have to launch a tad bit lower RPM

i say gut the whole car! I would launch a little higher 1900. 35 psi would never work for me 26 psi after a burn out is what works well for me i get the 60 foot from hell with that set up i broke 1.899

Ok this is crazy what I just read but to each their own first you don t need to move your engine covers spare tire jack floor mats and trunk mats those are not that heavy that you have to move that is crazy . This is what you should do run the car in power mode its makes the shift faster go buy a K&N filter is like $50 and if you have the money go and buy a blitz throttle controller .
