Default 2009 is 250 awd 204 hp

Quick question to the owners of 09 IS 250 AWD. Is the performance good? Is the car loud or you can barely hear it? I know 204 HP is not the fastest, but I am just wondering because I know with Lexus it could be different.

I have a 250 RWD but the acceleration is similar if not a tad bit faster to all the AWD's that I've driven. It's not that blazin fast, but it's not a slouch either. I would say that the sound of the engine is louder-loudest at 4k-redline, of course. The 250 is fast to me because I came from a '98 4runner. However if you want fast, you should go with the 306hp IS350. I would drive a 350 every now and then, and when I get back to my 250, it feels slow in comparison, but since you're from NY, you probably want the practicality of the AWD. If you can live with the RWD in your area, you should just go with the 350.

Unless you're a -really- bad driver just get a 350 and a set of winter rims/snow tires.

People got along fine most of the last century without AWD, even in the snow.

the 250 RWD is a =lot= slower, the AWD is even slower than that.

It's not loud, but the car sounds much faster than it is. 204 hp could be fast in a Civic or something, but not in a 3500lb car. I have a 350 and have gotten 250's as loaners a few times. The 250 feels decent up until say 4000 rpm, then there's nothing after that. So if you're even questioning whether a 250 is fast enough, then you should just get the 350.

I'd go as far to say the 250 is somewhat underpowered. But for everyday driving, it's plenty enough. Ten years ago, this would have been considered to be a fast car.

Not really.

10 years ago you could probably find a leftover 1998 Supra new and that was a fast car. And it still wasn't any faster than an IS_3_50...but a lot faster than a 250.

Yep, I have a 350 and I feel the power is just right for a sport sedan.
