This is interesting, if so it's in it's earliest stages. What might be a lot more probable is that perhaps there's a new engine prototype under the bonnet.
With that said, I do notice the rear brake calipers are on the opposite side opposed to how they are on the current 2nd Gen IS vehicles.

how is that test mule. Looks like a scrap yard 2nd gen with silver door handles, trunk and mirrors. needs to be painted then its a 2nd gen not a 3rd gen... It doesnt even have the new headlights.
edit: look at the back bumper theres a huge gash covered by bandages. This car gives me a headache to look at it.

It looks like a 2010 test mule used to possible make the current 2011... which was just refreshed..
Some indications are the updated bumper, but still rocking the older head lights & tail lights... !!??
Who knows!!! Maybe they are testing out a new engine and new brakes..

It's a Mule not a 3Gen prototype, hence the title. It's very common to see next gen mules using the current body, to test engines, suspensions, etc.
I'd love to see the prototype as well, but at least seeing this means there's an end game for the new IS sooner rather than later.

I really hope it comes out next year as 2012 model. I think IS sale is slower even with refresh, F-sport and 250/350c. It looks like convertible sale doesn't help that much.
I think IS sale should be around 5k a month. Bring in new IS ASAP lexus

The 3rd Gen IS will come within the next two years. People that bought the 2nd Gen IS in 05, 06 and 07 are inching to upgrade to a new car.

^^ They would NOT do a one year refresh... Millions of dollars spent on that...
The MY2013 will show up towards the end of 2012.... There is a pattern here folks, see the 3rd Gen IS Speculation thread
Another thing to mention.. they slapped the silver section on the trunk with the IS250 Badge... But the front brakes indicate IS350..
Also, love the NO sunroof..!!
