They have extensive market forecasting in which they decide redesigns well ahead of time. It's called long-range strategic planning. The fact a car is selling well does not affect a redesign either. Look at the RX, it always sells well. By this logic the RX would never get redesigned. And the issues in Japan are short term, again nothing that would affect a redesign.

The introduction of the redesigned IS is already set, we just don't know what is. But I've heard fall 2012.
It makes sense to me, the second generation IS was introduced back in march 2005 at the Geneva Auto show and has been around for more than 6 years now. It is getting quite old (as the GS) and sales over here in Europe are really low (2,749 units total half-year sales in 2011 for the whole 'Toyota European zone' which spread west to east from France all the way through Russia and Kazakhstan and including Israel and Turkey :http://toyota.eu/about/pages/newsdet...m=pressrelease). Let's be straight forward, the current gen IS is not selling anymore.

Now that the 2012 GS is on its way, I would expect the 3rd gen IS to be introduced in Genava march 2012 (the current IS will then be 7 years old!) with availability in dealerships starting November that same year as for the currect IS.

Mid to late 2012 as a 2013 model is the probably the best guess. As for powertains, the new 2012 GS will continue to utilize the 3.5 and 6 speed auto initially, so expecting the same for the IS for the first model year or two. Eventually the 8 speed should find it's way into the lineup as may a new or updated/more displacement engine

The 4th Gen GS will land in the US in 2012 as a 2013.... And so will the 3rd Gen IS...

The current platforms are ending with a 7 year life cycle..

Just like the 1st Gen IS300 / Toyota Altezza
(Total 7 years of production)

I think it looks good.

Not sure why almost everyone trashed it in that thread you made about a week ago or so.

Have you done any other angles?

As far as 3IS engine speculation goes, I'd love to see Lexus bump the 3.5 V6 up to 4.0. That'd give a pretty significant boost in hp/tq.

Ok, just got an email from Lexus about the 2013 GS350, and in the press release it states,

"Lexus will reveal the all-new GS 350 mid-size luxury sport sedan on Thursday, August 18th in conjunction with the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.

The fourth-generation GS has been completely redesigned, inside and out, and will feature the brand’s new design philosophy, with styling cues such as a distinctive new front grille, that will soon be seen on all future Lexus vehicles. The new GS will also lead the rest of the Lexus lineup in an entirely new direction of driving dynamics."

Here is the link to Lexus:

And the pic provided in the press release:

If i tell you, unfortunately im gona have to kill you.. LOL

we are hearing reports that the next-generation IS sedan will make its debut sometime in 2013. The reason, according to our sources, is that work has started on a new 4-door sedan based on the FT-86 platform. For those who are not familiar with the FT-86, it’s the concept car that made news at last year’s Tokyo Motor Show. As the spiritual successor to the old Levin AE-86, a car we called the Corolla coupe, the rear-wheel-drive FT-86 will make its debut in June 2012.

As for the Lexus IS, this car will be built atop a stretched version of the FT-86 chassis. Toyota boss Akio Toyoda is keen on spicing up Toyota’s image into one with a more powerful emphasis on sport, so we hear the next IS will look and perform sportier than the current model.

While the FT-86 sports car will be powered by Subaru’s EJ20 engine (2.0-liter flat-4), the IS will be powered by a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated 4-cylinder and/or a 3.6-liter flat-6. The 2014 Lexus IS F will continue with a high-powered V-8 that’ll make the luxury sedan a presence on the racetrack.

BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT look out for the LEXUS IS-F COUPE
