3rd Gen IS speculation thread

In my 30+ years of studying auto enthusiasts, there are two constants that have always remained the same:
1) People often say, "I am going to keep my car forever." And then when a new model comes out or a few more years pass, they trade up or trade in.
2) "I'm going to buy upgraded Car X in a few years." This car is usually much more expensive than the current car we have. Or it is commonly the more powerful version. Some will actually go through with this plan. But the majority will stick with a lateral move.
Psychology... gotta love it.

My understanding is the 3IS is supposed to be a 2012 model debuting fall 2011. There were also discussions of a sub-IS car (1-series competitor), sharing many of the 3IS' parts, in the works for an earlier launch (in 2010 as a 2011 model.

Any idea on 2012 IS?
Does anyone have an idea of what the 2012 IS will look like. I have heard that there won't be a 3rd generation IS and then I have heard that there will be. Just out of curiosity, do we know for sure and what it might look like?
