Default OEM iPod Adapter vs VaisTech

Since the other thread has been totally hijacked...

Has anyone with the OEM iPod adapter ever actually seen it to confirm that it's not just a Vaistech adapter? After reading through the various threads it seems like they have identical features. The places where people report there are differences it's usually "Vaistech can't do X" when in actuality it can (I have one).

So does Lexus actually make one or are they just doing a buy/resell on aftermarket parts?

Given one plugs into the XM port and one plugs into the CD changer port, I can say with some certainty they're not the same part.

If the Lexus one worked in the CD port (and thus didn't make it impossible to ALSO have XM radio) they'd probably install it that way... they're screwing themselves out of 300-500 bucks per car by making you pick one or the other with the OEM adapter.

There is a unit that connects to the Satelite port. This was the original from Lexus. Many dealers are now selling the Vais unit and calling it a Lexus unit.

I just picked up a Griffin Autopilot to hook up my iPhone 3GS to the IS.. $30 and it's plug and play. Sure, the info doesn't show up on the nav screen, but you can't beat the sound quality and installation convenience for the price.
