Default MTEC HID is dying after 3 years, is this normal?

Tonight, for the first time ever, my front left HID went out. I didn't notice till I got home and only half of my garage was lit. Upon turning my lights on and off, the light came on, but was significantly weaker than the other side. Is the bulb dying? I'll check the wiring tomorrow... Typical life on these things is 3000 hours, but I doubt I'll be able to get it replaced. What should I do? Can I just get replacement bulbs? Or do I have to get a new kit?

It could be either the bulb or the ballast. Try testing it with the working ballast/bulb.

Is the bulb also a different color? Like purple or something ?
If the bulb comes on, but is weaker than the other side, that's pretty indicative that you need to replace the bulb. Aftermarket manufacturers can put whatever life they want on a bulb, but I don't think anyone ever gets that much life out of a bulb (3000 hours).

You can just buy replacement bulbs (replace both so color will match), since kits use the same AMP connectors anyway

I don't know what kind of manufacturer MTEC is, but my guess that its something made in China/Korea/Taiwan etc. If so, consider yourself lucky that your HID kit lived 3 years

its the bulb. the balast should be fine. this is normal for an HID bulb that isnt oem. oem bulbs last up to 5 years, and aftermarket kits of decent quality will last about 3-4 depending if you use them as DRL's or not.

Just get ebay brand for $60. They're just as good.

I wiggled some wires, and checked all connections and the output is still a bit low, but it hasn't crapped out again. Hopefully it'll stay that way
