1. With your foot *off* the brake, bush the start button twice. Cycle through your trip odometer settings and make sure it is displaying "ODO", *not* trip A or trip B.
2. Push the "start" button one more time, turning off the ignition.
3. With the ignition off, push and hold the trip odometer button. Now push the start button twice, again, with your foot *off* the brake. (remember to keep holding the trip odometer button) Keep holding the trip odometer button while the ignition is on until the service light goes out.
That's it.

This is how I do it. (From ignition off)
1. Press start once [Foot off brake]
2. Press and hold trip reset button
3. Press start once [Foot off brake]
4. Continue holding trip reset until ----- disappears
1. Press start once [Foot off brake]
2. Press and hold trip reset button
3. Press start once [Foot off brake]
4. Continue holding trip reset until ----- disappears

It only measures miles, not months. Warning that goes away in a few seconds starts at 4,500 miles past last reset; warning that stays on constantly starts at 5,000 miles past.
