Question Finding an IS 350 in NYC/Tri-State

Been calling around, not too much luck finding them. I know some have it, but are IS 350s really THAT rare on the east cost?

I always see IS250AWD on the streets..

I'm starting to think that the 250 is too underpowered for my liking..

Well I guess I should rephrase. They aren't rare but there is very limited stock of this trim.

For instance. St the very first dealer I visited. He kept pushing the 250 on me. Despite my faint interest in the more expensive trim. Instead he suggested the ES

I just did a quick search on cars and autotrader. Within 75 miles. A good handful of them, but yeah some of them are priced high for the high mileage ones too. Dunno about new.

Try Lexus of Edison (PM me for contact name) or Ray Catena (not recommended, didn't have good experience); both are in central NJ. When I purchased my was shopping (between Oct-07 - Mar-08), both dealers had them. LoE had leftover 2008s with great discounts and RC had 2009s. LoE is part of the Penske Group, if they don't have it, they will get it for you. Plus my sales woman was great; she showed me every car took a dozen or so drives with different models, trims. Well above and beyond.

Nothing to do with east coast, everything to do with where it snows.

Lexus thinks drivers are idiots who don't know how to drive properly or buy snow tires, so they tend to ship a lot of AWD cars up north, and the RWD 350s to areas it rarely snows.

I had no issues when I purchased from Massapeua.

I did have wait for the car to come from Japan.

Worth the wait, knowing that the car came from the port directly to me.

That's what I did too, and was glad to get a car with <3 miles on it. At the time only one of the MA Lexus dealers had a 350 on the lot and it had 150+ miles on it. Dealer claimed the received 1 a month, and didn't mind working with me on the price. Lately though, I see like 4-5 350s on the lot. Looks like the same ones each time.

The reason is that there are only 2 IS350 out of 10 built. So do the math its quite rare in NYC one because in the snow its slip and slide . I got my hands on one in 06 but it was a pain.

yeah. Is350s are pretty rare in NYC.
I don't see them nearly as much as I see like, the BMW 335s.
Most of them are like mine, 250 AWD.

it's not that slow. Certainly not the fastest, but I think it's good enough! At least that's how I justify it to myself haha

I guess it does have sufficient horsepower for everyday use.

However, the throttle lag and slow shifting of the automatic doesn't really help the situation. I'm sure I'll survive with a 250 but I think city driving, especially in NYC requires something with good pick up.

Not quite. I believe that the "typical" optioned cars are purchased based off of district.

Here in Tidewater VA, most of the 250's come in as AWD, even though we rarely see snow (sometimes ice, though, but not often). And, the 350s are somewhat uncommon (well, all IS's are uncommon in this area for that matter)

Anyway, based off what Lexus reps have told me, our store is the southern point of northeast district, so we get cars optioned the same as they do in NJ/NY/etc. NC, only one state down, is considered the northern part of the region that handles the southeast.

So, Kurtz being in NC gets to see all the IS's in RWD form, whereas we see AWD form but have the same weather conditions and are only about 200 miles away. But, either way, from what I've observed when living down in NC the ratio of 250:350 is still like 15:1.
