Hi Guys,as a former member here with a IS 250 AWD and now an owner of a loaded 335i,I'll give you my thoughts on a IS 350 and 335i.
I've driven and been a passenger in a IS 350 a number of times too.Almost bought one.
The IS 350 has a much more luxurious interior, much more reliable and quick.
Great car but IS just doesn't handle at all.
The 335i has a nice functional interior, nicer exterior look(IMO),very fast, very modable ,super handling and has 4/50 free maintenance.
The 335 cons are it's much less reliable(bad high performance fuel pumps, warranty upped to 10/120),has run flat tires, interior not as luxurious and more expensive than the IS 350 fully equipped..
I'm not a young guy and this is my first BMW.I wanted to try one.I usually don't keep a car long so the reliablilty thing doesn't scare me.I figured I'd give BMW a try.
I actually love the BMW but I will definitely be interested in the next design IS.

i only saw one person mention the mercedes c350. i like how they look, my cousin has one. i think we tend to look that car over comparing it to the is350, it does have a little less HP tho i believe around 280 crank

I didn't bother to test drive the C350 for two reasons. I couldn't get over the fact that it was much more expensive then the IS and the seats were flimsy and the interior felt cheap, and... TWO... We were looking at them for 45 minutes, there was no one else at the dealer, and the sales staff wouldn't even give us the time a day.

The funny thing is that the day I first test drove an IS, I went over to the Mercedes dealer afterwards and sat in a C350. The seats are so cheap and thin, they were not comfortable at all, and the interior just looks cheap compared to the IS, but the exterior is definitely hot...

Does this really happen? I've been to multiple car dealers - MB, bmw, lexus, jaguar over the years and EVERYONE gives me the "time of day"
When I enter I always have a sales person come up to help me.
I think sometimes people try to argue this notion that sales people will try to do this mental "pruning" of people in a dealership and tend to only those who they think will actually purchase a car.
Then, sometimes people extend this a little further and try to argue that sales people try to look for individuals who "looK" wealthy enough to purchase the cars.
Not saying you have this sort of reasoning of course, just putting it out there because it's sort of relevant to what you said and I've seen others try to argue this kind of reasoning.
I mean I'll go in wearing walmart shirts/cargo pants with my general appearance looking like "crap" and I will ALWAYS have a sales person come up and talk to me.
Maybe I've just been lucky or something.

Many competitors to IS350 in my opinion, but the closest ones are BMW 335i sedan and Mercedes-Benz C350 Sport sedan. Then Infiniti G37 sedan, Audi A4/S4 sedan, and the upcoming Acura TSX V6 are pretty close too.
