Default Factory Production of MY2009 IS

Hello all,

I was just wondering if Lexus factories are still producing 2009 IS sedans?

I asked because I just placed an deposit for a 09 IS 350.

The dealer calls me back saying he cannot get the color that I want (Black Sapphire w/ black interior). He asked for alternatives and I don't have any second choice colors.

He said they've searched all 50 states, but can't locate the vehicle with my color combo. They said they'd search all possible channels, but he was pressing me for a second color choice.

Anyway, I stand firm. To my understanding, there are probably no more 09s in production since 2010 is around the corner. Given this scenario, it's likely I'll be canceling.

Somewhat disappointed!

That's too bad. Yeah, that is definitely one major downfall of Lexus. While you can special order, it's usually a very grueling and time consuming process and sometimes (like now apparently) it really isn't an option.

Well good luck with whatever other car you end up purchasing. What other brands/vehicles are you looking at?

I've been looking at the BMW 328xi.

It's quite pricey when its similarly equipped as the Lexus.

With this in mind, I really want to stick with the 350. The dealers have been nothing but discouraging. They keep telling me production of all vehicles will decrease by half. To make the situation worse, they think Lexus will focus their efforts on the 350C.

I don't really want to go with the bimmer, I had that initial click with the IS and its hard to ignore that...

I have no clue what to do. A new 2008 IS350 or new 2009 IS250AWD is out of the question.

Don't know if I should hold out hope for the 09 350 w/ my color combo or give them my second choice.

The ISx50 should have 1 or maybe 2 more years left before a changeup, but an '09 350 black/black shoudn't be that hard to find. I can't understand why they can't locate it from another dealer. Black/Black or white/black is the most popular combo and they've made tons of these. I still see a lot of these on the dealers lot when I go to have my car checked up at the dealership. Try calling up sewell lexus and see if they have it.

Have you test driven the IS 350?

The problem with the 328xi is that it's noticeably lacking in power/acceleration compared to the IS 350.

If you had to go BMW, you might want to look at the 335i which is a pinch (i think maybe .1 second or so) faster from 0 to 60 stock and through the quarter mile. You can make it a lot faster with jb3 as well if you desire.

But to each his own I suppose. To me the power in the 328 was fine (it's a 3 L inline 6) but it annoyed me when I realized I could get much more power at a similar price with the IS 350.

While the 335is were a good $10k more expensive than the IS 350s, I personally could not get one because I needed my car to last a fairly long time, and the 335i could not satisfy my needs in that department.

My dealer told me about Black/black.

I feel like if I'm not getting my first color choice, I should have some more negotiating power. The deposit and order has been placed and signed. If anything, I might just cancel the order.

I test drove the 350 and 250AWD.

I currently drive an Accord V6 w/ 240 hp.

The 328 isn't too far off (especially considering its a more compact car), power should be plenty.

In fact, there simply an overabundance of power with the 350. The reason I stuck with it is because the 250 is too underpowered for my personal needs and satisfaction.

But you are right, BMWs are more expensive. I think I get more out of my money with Lexus.

Don't forget that I'm in NYC (NE region).

We have a lot of 250AWDs and the occasional 350s.

kl323, have you seen the black sapphire in person?

I was originally set on getting the black sapphire after seeing pictures of it online. I went to the local dealership to see the color in person... honestly I did not like the color as much as I thought I would.

I ended up getting a black/black IS since to me the black looked way sexier.

Too bad we can't get the IS-F blue color on our non IS-F cars.

I don't know, but I suggest to check Truffle Mica (2009 color), it's not blue, but its classy and rare.

I definitely saw the black sapphire. I actually liked the color a lot.

To me, i felt like I was getting two colors in one.

From some angles, it looked blacked, under the sun, it looked blue.

I definitely liked it. Too bad it was on a 250AWD...

IS350 is the way to go! $10k cheaper + lower maintenance cost after the warranty expires and it doesn't have those annyoing 'Engine check' lights go on and off like a Christmas tree!!!
