I had the brake TSIB completed a couple months back and they did not change the fluid. The dealership was clear that the brake fluid wasnt part of the work...

They changed the pads to the low dust type and fixed the rear caliper issue...

because brake fluid become corrosive and starts damaging the internals of your braking components and moisture gets into it over time causing decrease in psi.

Yup...brake fluid should really be changed at least every 2 years or so due to the moisture issue if nothing else.

Sort of.

Normal brake fluid begins to accumulate moisture pretty much from the moment you start using it... the higher the moisture content the lower the boiling point of the brake fluid.

+1 Clay Easto, the stealerships have more ways to rip you off than Carter has liver pills. If it ain't broke, don't fix it !! All those fluid flushes are really just a WALLET FLUSH !!

It's not physically possible to change even a majority of the fluid, let alone all of it.

Lexus considers the transmission a sealed unit with lifetime fluid, as described in your owners manual.

Not that it makes any difference, when you refuse the 30k maintenance and have them do just the oil change and brake fluid change, the service history will reflect just those items individually. Mine says "REPLACED BRAKE FLUID" and "ENGINE OIL AND FILTER CHANGE ONLY" as opposed to the "15,000 MILE SERVICE" entry from the previous owner (or Lexus with their CPO prep).

So, the fact we passed on having Lexus perform those "inspections" is reflected in the history. Again, not that it matters . . .

Besides it not mattering, those inspections will almost certainly still be done since they're done at any oil change.

And since you'll be doing the air and engine filters yourself you'll have recipts for those to keep with your service records too for the next owner.
