Default different brand of tires in front and rear on AWD?

hi,
i was wonder if it's ok to use different brand of tires in front and rear on an AWD? because i heard that it's depend on what type of car.
my different brand means like the front i use toyo and the rear i use nitto, something like that. so is it ok to do that in AWD?
thanks
Nick

My preference is a matching set of tires.
I'd prefer all 4 wheels to behave similarly

If the 2 different brands had the same tread, I think it would be fine. But since that is extremely unlikely, I wouldn't do it.

it's like skating on ice with one skate on ur foot and a running shoe on the other...well that's a bit extreme lol.

Unfortunately, someone slashed my rear tires last year and when I went to go replace them, they only had 2 tires in my size and they weren't the same as my originals, so I had this setup. It felt a bit different at first, but when I changed the front tires to match the new ones, you could feel a big difference.

using different brand tires in front and rear is a no-no for any car, no matter AWD or not, if you don't drive with speed over 60 km/h ofcourse

considering your staggered setup I think its even worse idea

1- You don't say if you have different sizes Front & Back but it does sound like you don't/can't rotate. Otherwise they would all wear the same.

2- 40% left on 1 pair. So you might be throwing out roughly $80 on a pair. is your safety worth $80. If not then just get the Sears 80Kmile special, they'll handle like crap but they'll last.

3- For an all wheel drive vehicle that is a big difference between the front & rear. Not sure of the Lexus system but it could potentially drive the computer nuts. Usually an AWD system likes to see similar diameter tolerences.

4- I just had a blow out on my ES July 4th weekend. No spare because I changed wheels & tires last fall going +1, figuring they'd last till I got wheels & snows for the winter and use one of the off season wheels as a spare.
Silly me, forgot Murphy's Law. I was towed to a garage they put a similar tire on but different brand. 1st thing Monday I was putting out an extra $290 for an extra wheel and a new tire of the same matching brand. I now have a spare. The whole deal cost me an extra $180, but my (&family) safety I felt was worth the extra expense.

Well i have the same problem... i left the oem 255/40/18 bridgestones on the rear and then got some 225/45/18 dunlops on the front and aloth they are same diameter the thread is different. The dealer said something that it would cause or could be causing my problem. By time i replace the rears i think ill buy new rims/tires.
