I am a new member with my first post, I traded in a 2001 BMW and traded in for a 2009 IS 250 about 3 months ago I was very active on the BMW forums. If it was not for the BMW forums with actual service technicians answering member problems I would not have been able to afford it. I did all the repairs myself for 8 years.
For years issues with window regulator have plaqued BMW's. Sensors, Water Pumps, Cracked Radiators. I could go on. It was well known on the forum if you want performance buy a BMW if you want reliability buy a Japanese Car.

I have been monitoring this forum for a few months and this is the first negative thing I have found for the IS and it does not seem so bad.

Anyway looking forward to the Club Lexus Forum!!

I'm not buying an extended warranty for my IS350 because I expect the engine to fail.

I'm buying it because Lexus parts are STUPID expensive and I think there's a reasonable chance I'll have something like my ML sub fail, or one or more of the hundred other complex and crazy expensive items on the car.

Especially given that in many cases I've seen someone ask "How do I get part X for my 2IS?" and the response has come "They don't sell that part by itself, to save money in manufacturing it's all one big part now so you have to buy complete assembly Y that costs $1800"

Hence dropping 1300-1400 for an extra 3 years of coverage, when it's fairly likely even using it once will break me even, is fairly cheap peace of mind.

On average it's a money loser for the customer. But, if your NAV system takes a dump when you're under one, then you end up smelling like a rose.

Don't get an aftermarket extended warranty - I have been burned twice: 1sourceautowarranty went belly up after 1 year and equigard went belly up a week after I got my policy statement - over $1200 down the crapper! I have a Lexus Platinum warranty on my 2008 IS250 - got it for just over cost when I bought the car new. If you can get the 7 year 100,000 mile warranty for $1400 from http://www.toyotaofgreenfield.com/ , I'd get it.

Yeah no on the aftermarket warranty...my sister got it throught her credit union when she bought her Scion...may be cheaper than OEM but it covers less...way less. It doesn't cover any audio components, and her AUX input crapped out so she is SOL...I told her wouldn't had happened if she bought the warranty from Toyota...I would recommend the extended warranty if you plan to keep your car for more than 5 years, (i don't want to keep paying for a car that something is wrong with) or if you have all the extra features Navi, parking sensors, headlight washers...It's really worth the extra 1400 for the warranty from Lexus...PS i just got the Navi update v9.1 free under the warranty.
