Default Extended Warranty Worth it?

Hello All CL members,

I am in the market for a used 2IS, I have found some that are still under the factory warranty but the warranty will not last for the length of time that I want the car for. I was wonder if anyone has had any issue with there 2IS over 40k miles and if getting a extended warranty is worth getting from the dealer. Thank you for your time and answers.

Get it. Dont get me wrong, every lexus me (or my family) have ever owned has been great! No issues what so ever. The IS.....not so much, my IS has been in and out of the dealer since day one, brakes, dash rattle, stearing rack, fuel line, and now the damn engine rattle on start up! which aparently has no permanent fix. I am very curious to see how this car holds up once it get up in mileage 100K plus. Note: I mean the 2IS......My moms IS300 was an amazing car that never had an issue (other than being slow)

If your gonna get used, your probably better off with an 07 model year and above just to be on the safe side (not that 06's are bad just new model years have more problems)

From your local dealer? Probably not...

From one of the dealers who sells to the internet folks? Probably yeah.

Do a search, there's 2 guys who sell em just over cost, so likely half what your local dealer wants for em... Troy Dietrich and Toby Rivers... probably search either phrase and you'll find contact info for both in the threads that come up.

Ask for Troy. I got the 7 yr./100,000 mile $0 deductible warranty for $1,480 (no tax). Normally it sells for $2,050.

I would definitley buy it.

most cars that I have looked at are 07+, nothing wrong with 06 models, there are more 07 I have seen for sale in my area.

Can this be used in NY or just in your home state?

It's a Lexus factory warranty, it can be used anywhere

(same if you get one from Toby- and I'd suggest getting a quote from both, I've seen both offer a slightly cheaper price depending on exactly what car you're asking about and which warranty)

No doubt, the later the model, the better!! If you do get an 06 IS, I bet the price with extended warranty will come very close to a price of 07 or even an 08 model.

Get it.. My wife '01 Silversport RX needed a new tranny at 70,300..

300 miles out of factory warranty.. Dealership argued it was out of warranty..

Corporate takes weeks to get back to you..

From the perspective of a potential buyer (still cross Shopping) you guys crack me up with some of the things you consider worrisome issues.

Grab a lunch, sit down and spend an hour on any BMW site.

Nahhh..our cars were carved out of a solid piece of steel nothing to worry about

But really...if you can invest just under 2K for a piece of mind then get the extended. That first possible breakdown will pay for itself on the first visit.
