Hey all,
I posted awhile back regarding my interest in the 350. The dealer wasn't able to locate a car for me...to my spec.
Anyway, I signed a contract and made a deposit for a car for 41131.50.
The dealer just called me this past week about making a special order for a car. He claims that he did it already and that I just need to tell him whether or not he needs to cancel it. He just wants me to come in a sign a contract for it.
Anyway, the car that I want is as follows---
IS350 w/ navigation and luxury package.
Regarding the price for the 2010, he said that the final amount I need to pay would be 400-500 higher than what I agreed upon (see above). He thinks he can get it for 200-300 higher. He's still working with me to throw in freebies and what not. Anyway, I believe the 0.9% financing is no longer available.
What do you guys think of this? Should I shop elsewhere or agree to it? He said 90 days wait.
Thanks!

You'll want to confirm the financing question with the dealer, in writing. The total interest difference between 0.9% and 2.9% (still a good rate) on a ~$41K car is over $2K. Is it worth another $2K in financing costs to get the car you want later, at a higher interest rate?
If you aren't that picky about the color of your car (not specified in your post), then getting a car with navigation is not hard, more likely it will be harder to find the car with the luxury package.
Special-order is for picky people, if you are picky and don't mind paying more for it (and for $41K I don't think anyone will fault you for getting exactly what you want), then go nuts. Otherwise, ask them to find something as a trade from another dealer.

Yeah I'm quite picky about the color and options. Originally I wanted to Black Sapphire. He was able to locate the Obsidian for me. I was willing to take it but wanted him to confirm that it had the luxury package features in it. It didn't. So that was the deal breaker. Since I'm paying so much already, I might as well get what I want since I plan on keeping it for awhile.
I'm not sure how willing he is to do an inventory search and do a trade. It seems unlikely. These bunch of guys weren't too honest to begin with. They said they'd give me refund on my deposit, instead they call a few days later mentioning that they'd be wlling to do a special order. Even prior to that, when I asked them to confirm features on a car, they said that they will be calling me back in a few days, but they never did. Which leaves me to believe that they don't have what I want. They never didn't even bother to acknowledge it later on. During the first few weeks, it would always be me initiating contact, doing the follow up etc etc. Now that my interest in the car and my desire to get it has faded, I'm not as persistent in following up with them. Clearly this has shown and they have become more aggressive again.
The reason I have stuck with them is because the price ISN'T that bad. For a car that is so hard to find... I don't think its bad (especially since its a thousand or two below MSRP.)
In the end, I just want to know what you guys think of the number... I guess this is all subjective. Some people like to haggle to the very end, others don't.
Like you said, the finance rate makes a big deal. There aren't too much/no incentives for a car this new at this point in time...

Be very careful about special ordering. Many dealers are hopeless when it comes to actually putting in an order with Lexus for a special built vehicle to your standards. Instead, they'll search incoming vehicles on the boat for one that fits your specs (or close to it). Convince yourself that they know what they are doing, there are many horror stories on this board about botched up special orders.

At least for 2009, I heard its hard to find a 350 with luxury pack.
Even out on the streets, its pretty rare to come across a 350. I usually come across the 250AWD. I have NEVER seen a 250.
