My 05 RX is obsidian. I dont see any problem with it to be honest. Its had bird poop and rock salt on it for 4 months through the winter and was fine. My Mercedes has the same kind of chips on the front.

Toyota/Lexus is notorious for having soft clear coat that is susceptible to easy damage. Whether it be scratches, swirls, dings, etchings from water spots or bird droppings... it takes a tole on our paint quicker than say an Audi (who is known for having harder clear coat).

For those that are unfamiliar with various detailing techniques - talking mainly about compounding and polishing - you can remove much of these defects with the correct tools and products.

Proper maintenance makes this much easier in the long run. Keep a good layer of sealant or wax on your paint as an added layer of protection from the elements. If you use genuine wax, you should apply a new coat every 3-8 weeks. You can stretch synthetic sealants for a few months, but better safe than sorry.

This is not only much more cost effective than a new paint job, but most everyone can learn to do this on their own with a Porter Cable 7424XP machine. Extreme Case - IS250 damaged with Scotch Brite Pad - wet sand, lots of compounding, polish, protect.

This is kid was able to bring this Black IS250 back to perfect shape from horrible condition with just 2 polishing steps... once again, any one can do this!

I had a 2007 OB g35x the paint was the same way (it seemed like every time the wind blew there was a new scratch), I bought it used and looked like the previos owner took it through the woods did all I could do, spent an entire day on it, it still wasn't too my liking so I took it to a body shop gave it to them for the day had them rub the car out and make it look like new, well it worked and looked amazing! Best 130.00 I have ever spent. Now im in the same boat with my IS250 (its not terrible but i dont like it), its going back to the same body shop and having them do it.
