Thumbs down Storing the car for winter =(

well with snow in the forecast for overnight tonight, it is time to pretty much start prepping my car to be garaged for the next 4-5months.

I plan to basically start her up once a week and idle for like 5minutes or so just so the car doesnt literally just veg there without any activity once winter is finally here . would that be a good idea though in regards to just letting it idle?

but with temps hitting -30 degrees C is once a week good enough or maybe even too much? what do you guys think??

my winter warrior

nice winter beater LOL, to some ppl it's their daily driver. But I think you should drive the 250 since you got the awd shouldn't you? I wanted to store mine too, but considering i have an awd, i bought it for that purpose.

and what's up with snow already in Calgary? damn, if that's the case, you'll be storing your car for maybe 6 month?

hahah well the car I plan to give to my brother in law but thats not for a while so for now might as well store my 250 and drive the RX.

once my RX is no longer mine I have the 250AWD

and yes its in the forecast but calgary weather is so unpredictable its hard to rely on forecast but at the same time I would not be surprised that it will in fact snow at this time of the year in calgary

lucky you, wish i still had my wrx to beast through the snow. you've got the awd IS, if I were you i'd take advantage of it. if i lived in canada and wanted to store a for a several months i wouldve opted for the 350.

as for me

now i have a choice between the is350 or the m3 to hit the winter streets. 300+ HP RWD cars w/ summer tires FTL in cold seattle winters.

As for your question, I think it is a tradeoff.

You either start your car frequently so that it does not remain sedentary; but risk a cold and dry start (metaphorically speaking) since all of the oil is well drained to the bottom of the oil pan. On the other hand, you could limt the startup of your car to rarely - if ever; so as to avoiid that cold, dry start; but risk your car sitting where you parked it - sedentary.

Personally, I try to strike a balance between the two by starting my car and taking it for a spin rarely; hoping to avoid those cold and dry starts as much as possible.

This is just my personal philosophy.

yes that is exactly what I am worried about the cold starts, and I dont really want to take it out for a spin as the tires do not suffice when the streets are ice rinks

well the thing is I prob will be keeping the RX over this one winter so in fact come next year the 250AWD comes into play.

as mentioned it is because I have the RX for now that I might as well store the 250 and give it an extra year of not seeing snow

That reminds me. Winter arrives a little later for us down here; but yes, it is almost that time of year again for me, also. I generally shoot for Nov. 1 each year as the time when I pack it in until the following Spring.

Roughly 4 more weeks and it's good-bye Lexus until April 15.

hahah hope you know that if I wait for the days the roads are dry it could take months possibly

anyhow, the snow did hit last night but prob wont stick for very long though
