Default What's the purpose of this part?

Hey everyone.. I'm curious, I always wonder what is the purpose of this part of the tail lights?? It feels like a bulb belongs there.. any ideas? or is it just for looks?

That's for the rear fog light (I believe the passenger side) which USDM models don't get.

That's because a bulb does go in there. As Terrance said, the USDM model doesn't get the factory rear fog lights that the other countries get:

is the car pre - wired for this?

(meaning, if I buy JDM tail lights... would it be plug and play?)

I doubt it, they'd probably cost a lot too.

Probably, but you'd also have to buy a JDM stalk (and hope the wiring and harnesses match) to be able to turn them on. The USDM stalk doesn't have that particular control. It would probably be just as easy to do the wiring yourself and install an auxiliary switch in one of the bays next to your gas/trunk switch, if you have an empty one.
