the paddle shifter on these cars are slow as hell... I also own a M3 SMG and the paddle shifter on those cars are crazy fast. I think your better off leaveing it on drive.

agreed. i had an is for a loaner car and there is a huge delay in shifting when you use the paddles.

i only use the paddle shifter to downshift when i really need to pass someone on the highway...
upshifting with the paddles is useless...

The problem here is people thinking the paddles are shifters.

They're not.

The car has an AUTOMATIC transmission. It's not possible to manually change gears, paddles or no paddles.

All "S' mode can do is set the highest gear the AUTOMATIC transmission is allowed to use.

This can, in some circumstances, fool you into thinking you have some sort of ability to directly shift the AUTOMATIC transmission, but you do not.

S mode can be useful if, say, you're driving down the side of the a mountain and want to limit the highest gear the AUTOMATIC transmission is allowed to use in order to preserve your brakes.

But if you're trying to go fast in a straight line it's completely worthless for that purpose.

Well said. I only use the paddles or shifter for that purpose as well.
