Default precut window tint

hey guys, i saw the precut window tints for the IS on rvinyl's site, $29.99 + shipping for rear windshield, rear passenger windows, and front windows. i've read their instructions on how to apply them and i THINK i can apply them myself lol. instead of going to a tint shop and pay around $260 CDN to get them done, $30 bux sounds like a good price for an experiment.

but i'm not sure about the quality of their tint film, and was wondering if anyone had any experience with them.

thanks in advance!

site: http://www.rvinyl.com/windowtint/lexus/is250.html?

oh, opinions? deal or no deal?

ps: the site says it's for 06 - 08 isx50, are there any differences from the 09 windows?.. not that i know of...

I'ed just take it to a shop and have it done, at least you know it's getting done right. I'm not sure if cutting corners on tint is really gonna save you much money in this case.

I think it will be a $30 bucks + $10 shipping ($40 bucks) waisted. Any time I've seen someone try to do their own tint, it looks like garbage. Tons of bubbles.

Go to a pro and get it done right. I'm certain you'll wind up doing this anyway, even after you try it yourself. So itstead of $260, you'll have spent $300 after you try it yourself.

Just get it done right, trust me. Window tint isn't as easy as it sounds.

EDIT: and yes, the 09' rear window brake light it shaped different then the 08'.

For goodness sake, you have a Lexus, not an old clapped out Honda Civic. Pay a pro and have it done right instead of trying to save a few bucks by doing this yourself.

i disagree.. do it and let everyone else know how it turned out! remember.. any creases/bends you put into the film causes permanent bubbles/spotting!

many people DIY their own tint. It really isn't that difficult. Just watch youtube videos. Make sure the solution isn't too soapy. The hardest window is the rear window. The door windows should be easy if you take off the door panels

DIY is a good experience.
I did 2 hondas (accord cp, minivan) and 1 lexus (05 LS430)
hondas were easy to do but Lexus was hard because window and door trim gap was really tight.

I tried to do my 08 IS too but it wasn't working well.
so I bought better thicker more expensive tint flims. it was better but not perfect. I had winkles and some deep scretches.
so I took it to pros and paid $180 for a good full kit. even pros messed up 2 windows out of 5 including the rear.

If you ordered basic cheap $30 tints. It will be really hard to do it. and it will look cheap.
If you bought performance tints $50+, it will be a lot easier and give you better grades becuz it has extra coating and it is little bit thicker. thicker = easier to install + better heat resistance.

If you mess up with your 1st kit, try 50+ kit with 35% shade or below.
50% tints with perf kit looks like mirror and doesn't give you any darkness.

wow, awesome inputs! thanks guys.

i really wanna give it a try, but like mdgrwl said, '09 rear window brake light is shaped differently than the 06 -08's, and rvinyl only offers the tint fillms up to '08 isx50's. so i guess i gotta wait for a while before they make them for the 09's, or just get them done at a tint shop when my patience runs out lol

i think it's fun to do diy's. you get more satisfaction when you yourself improved the car's looks and or performance (intakes lol)

Practice makes it perfect but i'd start on smaller project than trying it on with big ones like your rear windshield right away.

Good luck.
