the w7 is a competition subwoofer and is geared more towards audiophiles.. i dont suggest getting it unless you know what kind of bass you want to listen to.. along with the fact that a 12w7 wouldn't even in a 4080enclosure

Bringing this thread back to life. Has anyone tried using the JL Audio HD750 amp? It's a little more pricey but you get the extra 250 watts, volume control (instead of a bass boost), and it's supposed to be a better designed amp (better heat dissipation too). Thoughts?

Any specific reason? A couple of the car audio installers I've spoken to said the slash series has had reliability problems.

I go with the 750hd its a newer design and smaller it also produces less heat. That is what I have on my s2k along w a jl flat sub.

But then again if I were to do a new a system I would stay away from jl. They are way over priced. I spent 6g on jl eq on my s2k and it doesn't sound good as the rf setup I have in my is250

Personally I like sq. I would rather go w a foward facing sub. The foward facing rockford fostgate t1 in my is250 sounds so much better and cleaner then my jl setup with a 4080 side enclosure.

A 4080 style enclousre just cause too much rattles and distortions.

That's just my opinion

Anybody living near the 10 and 605 can feel free and come listen to my setup.

9 out of 10 ppl who has heard my setup are blown away w the sound quality.

Thanks for your thoughts. Yeah, JL is quite overpriced, but I have a good dealer connection so pay pretty close to cost ($600 for a 12W6v2 AND 500/1v2). What do you think causes the rattles with the 4080 enclosure? Too much bass, poor box build quality?

one simple 10w7 will do the job just perfect. i have one 12 and it's more then enough for me. i say make your own enclosure if you have the time. I also took out my stock sub and the bass travels a tad bit better i guess.. or its just in my head and theres no difference lol

with the way the sub is positioned with the 4080 box, it will cause the car panels/sheet metal to vibrate and distort. causing your rattles.

by having a forward facing box and by removing the plastic cover for the arm rest... you will have less rattle and cleaner sounding bass.

back from the dead, anyone else want to chime in on the 4080 box? Removing the stock sub?

I'm considering the HD900/5 amp but I already have a slash 1000/1 and 300/4. Not sure what I want to do yet, any input? I'm really leaning towards the W6v2 as well.

After speaking to a few car audio installers, it IS recommended that you remove the stock sub. Promotes venting, minimizes distortion and thus gives cleaner bass.

4080 + 12w6v2 + 500/1 or HD750 is the perfect combo. You could of course use your 1000/1, too much power is never a bad thing, just not sure where you'd mount it since that thing is huge.

^ Because the stock sub in the 2IS is a free air sub and it's generally agreed that there's no easy replacement for it. The stock sub is also very efficient so even if a replacement was found, it's likely the difference would be minimal.

If you want better bass, go with sealed or ported.

I have a 12W6 in a JL factory box with a JL 500/1 running the sub and factory speakers up front non ML. It sounds great. I'm a bass junky too. All I added was a JL bass ****. My stereo shop did recommend the newer amp cause it could run your entire system In a small package and its digital. I would say stay with the amps you have unless you havena buyer or don't care to store them, but go with a 12w6. Not sure about the enclosure you speak of cause I have no experience with it. My box doesn't take that much room.

yea I think I may either go with a HD750/1 and just use the sub or go with the HD900/1 and just hook up the sub for now. I like the compactness of those HD amps ALOT. I posted the 1000/1 and 300/1 for sale though, Hopefully I get a buyer.
