Oil And Filter Change
I recently called a lexus dealer to see how much it would be for a routine oil and filter change. I was told that it would be 156 dollars. Why does it cost so much. Is it because of the car itself 2006 IS 350 a sports sedan, the name lexus or all of the above? I will research to see if there is a cheaper lexus dealer though. If not I will take the car to where I bought it.

i really don't understand why anyone would go to the dealership for an oil change.
i keep saying it a million times, go to a place like ntb, carx, midas, pepboys, etc, and get a $20 oil change. it's cheaper than doing it yourself, you get documentation, they fill up all the other fluids, and they're liable for any screwups.
it's a no-brainer

My local dealer if you ask for the X miles service (ie 10,000 mile service, which is honestly nothing BUT an oil change) they'll tell you it's a couple hundred bucks.
If you just say you want an oil and filter change and nothing else it's $50, and they still do the same inspections they would have otherwise with either above option.

Are you sure you asked for just an oil and filter change?

if you live close enough. go to lexus of westminster where you can get the oem element oil filter for like 5 bucks.. buy 7 quarts of 5w-30 castrol synthetic, a size "F" oil filter wrench from autozone(remember to wrap electrical tape around the oil filter canister to avoid stripping), and do it yourself.

it's an oil change.... an idiot can do it. and if you feel that strongly about it, you can stand there with him and watch him work. i do it when i use a shop i'm not familiar with. the dealership is just as likely to strip the bolt. oh by the way, it's easily replaceable.

If you go to the dealer to have a major service done, say, 30k, ask to see the service menu and take note of what parts they actually change. Then, ask to have those parts changed only. IOW, just ask them to do your LOF, replace your air filter, replace your cabin filter, replace your wiper blades, top off all fluids, and rotate and balance (if applicable). You'll be getting your $500 30k done for around $150. Your service writer will probably say "why don't you just do your 30k service?" Jut tell them "No thank you"
The dealer makes a **it load of $$$ just on "inspecting" things. In reality, they barely even glance at the required inspections. I've worked in a dealer for 27 years, I've seen the reality.
