i live in new york and it snows alot here, i got AWD its sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
haha, ya. RWD and FWD are much better in the snow. Go drive a fwd ES or a RWD IS in the snow and adjust your comment.
Living in Canada, I have all season tires on my AWD and are more than adequate on acceleration in snow and ice as well, but keep in mind AWD will not help when it comes to braking. You're just like any other car. It's all on the tires and winter tires are much better when it comes to braking.

It's the tires not the AWD system. Also it's rear biased so makes it very fun in the snow.
I think if you are buying the IS and want AWD cause of winter purposes, then yes the car is sufficient. There are cars w/better AWD systems then the lexus's (this applies to all their AWD vehicles).
