^ yup! just as long as you have good tires. and make sure you either tape up or put a bra on the front bumper and 1/4 of the hood or else the rock salt and gravel is gonna eat up your bumper! i learned the hard way =(

well here on the eastcoast we just got hammered with a foot of snow and im still ridding on my factory bridgestone all season with no prob. so you wont need snow tires since you live in ca. and you can always use the snow button

go for it as long as your tires are in good shape
I nearly slammed into a parked car because the factory dunlops were garbage tires to begin with and also wayy worn out at 40k

that said, even then, i still had better traction then with my previous FWD

Default Rethink Chains

Check the California rules on chains, snow tires, and four wheel drive and check the chain requirements for the roads you plan to drive at the Cal Trans site.

R1: Chains, traction devices or snow tires are required on the drive axle of all vehicles except four wheel/ all wheel drive vehicles.
R2: Chains or traction devices are required on all vehicles except four wheel/ all wheel drive vehicles with snow-tread tires on all four wheels.
(NOTE: Four wheel/all wheel drive vehicles must carry traction devices in chain control areas.)R3: Chains or traction devices are required on all vehicles, no exceptions.

When chains are required the fines for not having them are stiff and the CHP will turn you back if you don't have them. Add the cost of a tow if you get stuck. Roadside chain installers are not allowed to sell or rent chains.

Just drove mine in the Snow over the weekend. Didn't have a problem even with the stock Bridgestones. It's not my 4Runner but it still is able to make it around ok in the snow. I was actually impressed. Now I wont be trying to drive it in a foot of snow, but thats what working from home is for.. I plan on taking it up to VT for a little snowboarding myself in January.

I have a 2007 IS 250 AWD and live in NY. I have had absolutely no problems in the snow with this car. I have also been "off road" with the car when I went camping upstate last summer. I was very surprised how well it handled on a dirt road (with many potholes and rocks).
Furthermore for snow, I definitely recommend getting snow tires for extra traction.

I ended up not taking my IS cuz I only have about 75% maybe if less thread wear on my 19's so we ended up taking the EVO with no problem there thanks to JoEIS
