My nav system has everything u mentioned except the custom triggered POI, 3D buildings, the cost of updates and I cant put it in my pocket. I owned portable Garmins before and as a matter of fact, just sold one on ebay a few weeks back. The features are excellent on those things. To be honest, the lexus nav wont compare well with features to a portable, it can be better. On the other hand, I personally never need directions on foot and if i do, I have my smartphone. The 2010 with nav comes with destination assist, which for me makes a really big diff when driving and the lockout doesnt bother me anymore, I just call this person and tell them to find me a starbucks or whatever and they send it to the car. I am very good with the voice commands. The lockout doesnt bother me but I would like the option to play with the thing while driving. So yeah, I love the Oem look and functionality of my nav. I HATE the ipod interface and the low nav voice even on 7.

Yeah, as I said, the 2010s finally moved the OEM nav into this century... still not perfect but WAY better... when I special ordered my '08 car I went out of my way to avoid getting the OEM nav, if it had had the 2010 features I may well not have done that (though the cost is still 10x a garmin that does more, and just goes up with each map update...I could've lived with paying a bit more, but couldn't live with the glaring lack of features the 06-09 nav had)

Let's not turn this into ANOTHER OEM vs aftermarket navigation argument. There are surely enough posts covering that topic six ways from Sunday. The topic here is the iPod interface.

Yeah, it's nice because it charges the iPod. You can control it through the nav screen, but that interface is horrible. You can't even select music directly on the iPod (at least, the iPod Touch anyway) when it is plugged into the car's USB port.

The nav interface is so horrible that I've taken to unplugging the iPod, pulling up the music I want directly on the unit, and then plugging it back in. Horrible workaround, but way less annoying than using the nav screen.

to me that shows how much people don't like the system and that the lexus system is pretty primitive. a lot of people i know they are not very impressed with the ipod integration
It's pretty surprising to me how bad the iPod integration is.

They need to do a firmware update big time.

Simple question for ipod experts! Does the 2010 ES350 factory USB port charge the IPOD? Or do I need a combo cable that also plugs into the 12 volt accessory source?

Yes, The ES350's usb port will charge the IPOD. No need for a 12 volt cable.

Thanks KS! Surprisingly, that info is not given anywhere, not by Lexus, not by ipod! But thanks again!
