Buying a JL sub off eBay - good or bad idea?
I'm looking to buy a 12W6v2 JL subwoofer (and 500/1v2 amp). If you buy it from an authorized dealer it cost about $540 but there are numerous eBay vendors selling them new for ~$300. What's the catch? No warranty?

A lot of them say new in box, warranty included and have excellent eBay ratings. I am aware that most things that are too good to be true are, but everything seems to be in order. Not sure if I'm missing something...

When buying from Ebay buy the "seller" not the product. If it's a good seller you should be ok.
Also find out if JL allows internet sales. I've noticed from past experience that certain products are either fake or over manufactured without the Vendor (in this case JL) knowing.

buy it brand new in box, and if it comes with warranty then that's better for you. if you have no audio background, just have a professional install it(as most subs blowing out are because of improper tuning of the amp), and you should be fine. as far as i know, 12w6v2's do not blow often, but when they do, you should be able to smell the cone burning long before it actually does blow
