Hey guys,
I love my IS and have babied it since the day I bought it about 5 months ago. Ever since about 5,000 miles there has been this really annoying squeak coming from the gauge cluster. When I push down on the left side, it goes right away. It's almost as if there is plastic on plastic rubbing together. The really bad thing is, it's so loud at times, it drowns out the radio, on really rough roads. Has anyone else had this? I hesitate taking it to the dealer again because they basically just tell me to live with it and that Toyota and Lexus make their cars with "very tightly packed dashes". I tried but this is just bad news. I can live with some of the other noises but this is constant! I took a video today on my iPhone while driving on a freshly paved road at about 72mph. Check it out - i'd love to hear any ideas on how to get it to go away, thanks!

one thing i suggest everyone do, put some vasaline (if you have any
) around the edges of your moonroof, then drive around and see if the rattle/squeeks are still there.

I have the same squeak from the gauge cluster. The noise comes and go depending on how hot or cold the weather is. it's especially noticeable when its cold in the morning going over harsh roads. funny thing is that this IS has way more interior noises than any car i've own. (nissan maxima, acura rsx-s)

Nothing from my moonroof yet - just this, the middle ac vent and the passenger side window has a noise that sometimes comes in and out.
I too have owned several cars - BMW 3 series, VW GTI, Acura RSX-S...my parents both have new Lexus'...(GS460 and RX350) and neither one has the noises mine has, this one being the most prominent.
The dealer has looked at it and basically said it's just how the car is built. I do have another Lexus in town that I could try, I'm sure if I tell them the other wasn't much help they'd do what they can. Thanks for the quick replys!

Yes, I had that one - it got so bad at times that I seriously considered trading the f'ing car in.
The dealer kept the car for 2 days and fixed it. The bad news is that I can now hear the other rattles that it was masking, but here's the name of the TSB that took care of it.
Incidentally, I just got back from a work trip, and had a rental 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix. POS car, but yes, it rattled less than my IS350, even with 3x the miles. Ugh.

Instrument Panel Rattle
The dealer telling you it's "normal" or "how the car is built" is a cop-out. Next time they say that, ask them if Lexus is building crappy cars now...they'll back pedal.Instrument Panel Rattle

I've got this exact same crunching/rustling sound from the same area, albeit it isn't as loud. Just take it into the dealer. Mine comes and goes depending on the weather, so I've decided to live with it.
