Now i am thinking of just driving and checking the oil at every fill up and get it all detailed and serviced after the trip.

i say do it during. 3k miles seems too early to do an oil change, but it is dependent on your driving technique. if you can find a lexus dealership on the way to your destination in miami, then immediately do it there (by then you'll be around 5k in miles anyway). have a safe journey, and if you do plan to have an oil change, request synthetic oil be placed, or you can get some at walmart, as stated in an earlier post. they might even be cheaper in the lower regions.

Get the freebee oil change before and then after the trip put in the good stuff (Synthetic). The first couple oil changes are good for flushing out all the break-in debris. With two changes down you can then run the synthetic for 10K miles.

Journey Complete
Just an update. I set out Friday Jan 15 and completed the journey the following Monday. I decided against the oil change and took it to JM Lexus as soon as I arrived. I drove San Diego to El Paso (day 1) El Paso to Houston, Houston to Tallahassee and then down to Fort Lauderdale Fl. I hit a best miles per tank of 440 . Fueled up 6 times and averaged 30 to 31.1mpg at 80 miles per hour (85) when I was in parts of Texas with that 80mph speed limit. Great trip, it was easier than I expected and the car handled well. Well my 2600 mile trip is complete. Next I shall head to Pensacola and then on up to Memphis TN.

Yeah, the roads where so nice. I hit 135mph bursts few times and it was so quiet. Made me wish we had some unlimited mph roads. Also the roads r clean. no rock chips like california roads.

now thats what i like to hear! i love my cali, but damn, these roads can be rough sometimes. even with a clearbra, it still punishes at times. 135 and still quiet- you must've gotten both that track feel with the speed and the street feel with no cops. perfect conditions to drive, i must say.
