Aluminum hood is correct, a lot lighter and since there are two hood struts holding it up, it'll take a lot of force to push it down. And if you get a dent, it's a ***** to get out too cause it's aluminum. Better to slam it

Aluminum Hood.
Slam method is best. Keep in mind that there are rubber seals all around the engine bay. Like weather strip on windows. So closing would be a little challenge.
Anyway, this is normal.

I now know the gentle close/push down on hood method doesn't work.
Not comfortable with the all out slam from fully open position method.
So, what is the best method for the least amount of trauma ???
Any suggestions from the weekend mechanics that live under the hood . . .

I close the hood the way the OP does it. Boy, did the salesman look worried when I tried to close the IS' hood in the showroom. I kept pressing and it wouldn't lock and the soft hood kept deforming! He eventually told me to slam it which I found odd. All other Toyota's I've owned can be closed by pressing down after the initial latch (and of which 2 have aluminium hoods and don't deform).

No slaming really neccessary
Yeah, me too... Freaked me out at first, so i dropped it from 2 feet and it shut. Did it 3 times before i figured it was normal. I dont slam it, just drop it from 1 to 2 feet.

I suggest you to check those two black rubber nuts that use to settle your hood when I frist got my IS I hardly close the hood at once... my frist adjust those two black rubber nuts then its fine... so check that out they are locate on near the grille one on the left and one on the right... you could turn it anti-clockwise or clockwise for adjustment...
