Although I do have to agree that the price difference between the 350 and the 250 is rather small, given the differences between the engines. I guess it just depends on what you want to do with your car - for most people the 250 is more than powerful enough.

This has to be one of the dumbest things I ever heard. Unless you are coming from a Geo Metro yes it is very underpowered. 204hp would be enough if the car it was in only weights 2500lbs but the IS is like 4500lbs. Its all about power to weight ratio. Really if you think your 250 is fast you should go drive a 350 your head would spin. If you drove a Zr-1 you may die from over excitement

No need to insult :-) And I don't have a 250 by the way, I'm not trying to defend my car here, I'm just trying to objectively compare the cars.

I'm sure the 350 will make the 250 seem slow, but that doesn't mean that the 250 is underpowered. It just means the 350 is even more overpowered.

It seems like you're just used to extremely powered cars. My previous car was a 1.6 l with around 110 hp, it weighed 3384 lb. This was a bit underpowered, of course. Regardless, this is still closer to the "average car" than a 2.5 l 204 hp; let alone a 3.5 l 306 hp.

Or maybe we're just seeing cars in a different context? I see these cars as something to drive with every day, maybe you see these cars within the context of circuits?

I just bought an 07 is350 with sport and nav for 27k, and it had 26k miles. And it was from a dealer. Thats just for price reference.

I look at them pretty often in manheim as well and I see 06's with 22k-36k miles going for 22k-25k price wise.

The 250 is grossly underpowered. 204hp in a 4000lb+ car? c'mon. What other luxury brand has a car with power that low? Even the 328i and C300 have about 230hp and I think THOSE cars are underpowered as well.

Like I've said before, luxury sport sedans need to have some power. Power is part of the luxury equation. Thats why high end mercedes, bmw's, audi's, bentleys, aston martins, jaguars, ALL have alot of hp. The IS250 is like a RWD Acura TSX.

If it's a daily driver and you're concerned about fuel economy and don't care too much about power then get the 250. However, if you want a car with more power then definitely go with the 350. It all depends on what you're looking for.

Also, to the statement above, I've driven a 250 loaner and it drove terribly (to say the least). I would never compare a loaner vehicle to one that's well taken care of by it's owner though.

More than happy with my 250

The IS weighs about 1,000lbs less than that, coming in around 3,527lbs, according to Lexus. Even the IS-F is much less than 4.5k lbs, weighing roughly ~3.7k lbs IIRC.

I'd say its moreso perspective, as most don't track their 350s, anyway. Some find the hp in the 250 to be more than enough. Knowing a few 250 owners, some say it feels quicker than their previous car, but this can assume many things, including the condition of the previous car, to the gearing, alongside hp/lb, etc. between the two vehicles. You'll then have another group who has the same issues with the 350, relative to the F or another car, and so on.

The 250 is NOT underpowered! It is just powered as an average car that will get 30+ mpg. It is more then enough for the average driver. As far as handling the IS250 with the sport package is one of the best handling sedans on the market. Better then 95% of the sedans made, including the 335i!

Now, if you want power the IS350 is amazing. It runs right at the top of its class (STOCK). It is a driver's race to 1320 ft., even against the mighty 335i.

30+ mpg for an IS 250 seems very impressive... I have an IS 220d from 2009 (2.2 l; 177 hp) and I get only 25mpg. I often drive when there's a lot of traffic, but still, 25mpg is really low, the IS 220d dissapointed me when it comes to fuel consumption.

A 2008 Audi A4, for the same route, gets 40mpg.
