Actually the 09 Nav unit looks slightly different than 06-08. The screen shroud is black and has chrome trim vs grey. with no trim. The buttons on the side of the screen are flat vs having a bump on each button. AC vent is black and slightly different shape. Software wise though, its still Gen 5...

mrbbq hit the hardware cosmetic change. software is gen5, but 08/09 (mostly 7.1 and 8.1) doesn't have the i agree button anymore compared to 06/07.

obviously the newer the nav the more update the info

To clarify, rominl is talking about the software and maps that come on the replaceable navigation DVD. Put an 7.1 or newer nav disc in an '06 or an '07, and the unit will lose the annoying "I agree" nanny.

You can buy new OEM discs from any Lexus, Toyota or Scion dealer (current version is 9.1), or from Club Lexus vendor Sewell. Make sure you buy a Gen5 disc. In addition, people who replace their discs annually often resell the older ones on eBay or Craigslist, so you may find a 7.1 or 8.1 at a cheap price.

Discussion of copying nav discs is against forum rules, so don't even go there.

Please note that if you upgrade to the newer firmware, which removes the "I agree" button (the disclaimer still appears, it just goes away automatically after ~5 seconds instead of having to press "I agree"), you will lose the ability to override the software to allow destination entry while in motion. That was a long sentence.

So, to get a newer DVD for my 2006 IS350, I would need a 7.1, 8.1 or 9.1 DVD right? 9.1 being the newest. Does it matter if it came from a standard Lexus/Toyota Nav system or a ML Nav?

Whether you have ML or not, I don't think it's gonna make a difference.

No difference, the same DVD is used in a large variety of Lexus, Toyota and Scion cars. Just make sure you buy a Generation 5 disc, and you should be fine.

Are there release notes or anything similar so I can get an idea of what the firmware delta is between 9.1 and 7.1 (other than newer maps)?

If I have a 2006 Gs430 and I did the dvd override, can I still change to a newer version?? Can you override the address input while in motion??
