Not quite sure how to describe it and did not find anything in a search but here is what happens. When backing out of drive and cutting the wheel (not even a hard sharp wheel cut) as the car goes over the curb, there is a load sound coming from the front right and left wheels as I back over it. It also happens when backing up and cutting the wheels without going over a curb, such as backing out of a parking spot. It seems to happen most when the car is cold. The noise is very loud- people in the car ask what it is. I really don't know how to explain the noise but when talking to Lexus dealer, they said it's normal on AWD when the wheels are turned tight. It drives me crazy and my wife drives the car for the most part. I hope someone understands what I'm talking about here. Thanks in advance for any help.

I have an '07AWD--I've never heard such a noise, so I don't think I'd call it "normal". Have you tried having your wife back out while you watch to see if you can ID anything?

Same problem here since the day that I bought my '06 is250, i bought mine used with 25K miles on it.
The first problem occurred when I got home from work, I got home ate dinner then left the house to buy something when I was backing out of the driveway I hear this grinding LOUD noise
So I immediately went to the Lex Dealership they were still open at that time and lucky me they were free to check my car.
After the inspection the tech came out and look at me and ask me "did you hit a pothole?" I said 'now that you mention it - I did hit a big pothole going home'
The tech said that both Front & Rear Left wheels were damaged and they were grinding with the metal parts![Egads!](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/pat.gif)
The Dealership said that I need to replace both of my wheels and it would cost me about 2K![Mad](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/mad.gif)
I did some research and found a crew who repair damaged wheels, I went to them and they fix it for $300 each![Woohoo](https://www.clublexus.com/forums/images/smilies/woohoo.gif)
With that mention - It fix the grinding loud noise for the front of the wheels, but upto now everytime I back out my driveway my rear brakes still makes a loud noise when backing out and it happens all day louder in the morning then a lil' loud in the afternoon...
I think we need to bring it to the dealership and have them check out... Maybe the breaks needs to be change????
Anyone who has answers help!
