I was going to get a used one but the dealer quote me 3K of MSRPfor 2010 and I am thinking about it. It's come down to money and sense. Good luck.

I certainly don't need a new car but would like to get one only if I can get a good deal.
You are the type of buyer that the auto industry loves. Easy pickins' for easy profit. You have a perfectly fine car that you want to upgrade for ..... the same model and style. Huh? It makes no sense, but it is your money. The more people like you roaming around the better it is for the customer who looks at an auto purchase as a major deal, and not one taken lightly. I have an '06 and wouldn't think about getting rid of it for another IS, whether the C or an F. I have too much invested in the car and am not going to take a bath just to get a different style.

Don't do it. Trade in value is way too low, and $2500 off MSRP is a joke. You can easily knock off $5000 off MSRP. Work your way up from invoice, ask them what the invoice is...they are ripping you off both ways, the trade-in and new car.

The worst thing to do is combine trade-in with new car purchase. These are two separate things. Works out the new car purchase price first. Find your fair trade-in value from KBB, etc so you know what to expect from the dealer. I don't recommand trade-in to dealer because it's no secrete they suck your blood dry. I take time to sell my car on Craigs List and easily got $3K-$5K more than what dealer is willing to pay.

You also need to know when to say "no" to the dealer and walk away... But last, $ is yours, if you think $2500 off MSRP makes you happy, go for it.

This one is easy (if you decide to move forward) -

Don't trade the car in. You should almost never get ride of a car/buy a car in the same transaction. It's alot easier to hide the cost in a transaction like this. They take money from one area and put it in another.

It's not a super difficult transaction but, it just leaves room for them to become creative and confusing and you don't want that.

You should sell your car to a 3rd party (like Carmax). If you take this route, you'll get a higher value and you'll have cash in hand.

Now - when you go into a dealership, you're only dealing with the purchase of a new car. If you keep it simple, it prevents them from making it difficult

2K off of MSRP is actually not bad (in this case). What you really want to base the price off of is the invoice cost, not MSRP which stands for (manufacturers "suggested" retail price). Who cares what Toyota suggest right? Dealerships will always start at MSRP because they know that it's not a "real" number and anything near it is pure profit (unless you're buying the most exclusive car in the world).

If you were buying the car closer to summer, the savings would be even greater but, that's entirely up to you.

Good luck

dont do it. 2.5k off msrp is not a good deal for a 2010. Since you mention this car is for your wife, i think she would enjoy the IS-C more than the F

Wow - There's a ton of assumptions and generalizations packed in there or, maybe it's just me.

Austin, you're probably going to have your feelings hurt a bit when she drives away in the new car without realizing it's new. Why take a $40k bet that she even wants another IS?

If it's your anniversary, you might want to do something thoughtful, like take her away for the weekend. If you need to spend a large amount of money to be satisfied, then I'm sure a big diamond would get a better response than a clone of her current car.

Just my opinion!
