I went to the dealership today looking to trade in my 2007 IS350. The salesman stated the best he could do would be $2,500 off MSRP for a 2010 IS350. Does this sound reasonable. I am thinking they could give me a better deal but I wanted to find out what others have been able to get before I counter with $3,500 off MSRP.

New car smell? To be honest, I was hoping for more changes between the year models. If I knew there would be a major change to the IS by next year then I would probably wait, but it's the wife's car and she mentioned she would like a new one and our anniversary is next week so I thought it would be a nice surprise. I certainly don't need a new car but would like to get one only if I can get a good deal.

I bought the first car and still owe $14,000 and the dealership offered me $21,500 as a trade in. I would like to say there was a new design or something radical that's makes me want the new one but there's not. The problem is a don't think there will be major changes till the 2012 model and I don't want to keep this car that long. I have had the 07 for a little over three years and just wanted something new, if I could get a good deal. It would be a nice gift for the wife but if I can't buy it right then I don't want it.

Which is going to make more sense to you: Is the car more important, the money, or your wife? That's only something you can answer. If you put a large value on the surprise for your wife and making her happy, then maybe it's a worthwhile gift. But also keep in mind, if you did go for a new one, think about how you are going to feel when the new IS debuts in 1.5 years (or less). You could then be "stuck" with the old model and payments while others are driving around in the "upgraded" IS that you wished you had. Having said that, I personally wouldn't advise anyone to buy any IS at the moment with it being so late in it's life cylce. But I know things come up in life that throw a wrench, so you have our support either way!

What he said! or just get the ISF! Getting another IS350 is going to feel exactly the same, it will not feel new after a week. Sounds like you have money to burn, so just get something nicer. $2500 off MSRP is a rip off, considering most dealers are selling below invoice, I just received an email offering $1000 below invoice on a new 2010.

^exactly. i was shocked, but in the opposite. sure they're willing to negotiate a trade, but will lowball to have your 07 back for one of their new rides. this way they get a secondhand profit from the vehicle by marking up the price to a future buyer. what i think is that, if you and your wife are simply tired of the 350 and want something new, definitely consider the IS 350C or IS F. that way you'll get something new for the wife and it still has a relatively new stylish design that you've been holding out for. best of luck, and what a thoughtful husband!

Based on past experience:
New model high in demand: MSRP or MRSP - $1000
Moderate to high demand: Discount 2-5 percent
Moderate to low demand: Discount 6-8 percent
Low demand: 8-10%
Highest discount normally is 12%, but uncommon on Lexus models.
That said; (Larry David) go for the convertible at 6-8% discount and you're golded. You won't regret it.
