The redouts on an 06-08 are 10x easier. My 2010 wasn't as easy due to it's design.

 

So you're looking to just red-out your tail lights or smoke/tint them? Either way, here are a few pic's of mine. I've posted these same few here, i think that means i need to take some more pictures of my car...


Feel free to laugh, i painted them while still on my car... haha.

All it takes is VHT Nightshades spray paint (one can $9.99), clear (lacquer is what i used, i think) spray paint, and a few different grades of sandpaper.

Scuff/sand the lights with 800grit then rinse off the dust. Apply an even coat of VHT and allow to dry. I wet sanded this and applied a second layer to get the blacked out color. Allow to dry, wet sand and apply a few coats of clear coat, wet sanding if needed to get a really shiny finish.

the precuts are removable in case a cop deems it too dark to show any red, but the spray is actually a better look, but not that easy to undo. heyarms, your spray looks good!

 

Thanks bnizzle87. I took my time and did a lot of wet sanding and multiple clear coats, i was happy the way it came out. It's almost been a year and they're still lookin good. I try to recommend the self spray paint method to people because i hate to hear people paid up to $200 or so just to sand, spray and clear two tail lights.

 

The spray is super easy to undo, lacquer thinner does a great job at taking it off with ease. I wouldn't recommend getting it on ur paint tho.

 

im in minneapolis mn and would like to have the tails tinted professionally, does anyone know of someone up here that does it resonably priced

 

Got the precut out smoked taillights tried to put them on myself and screwed it up. next time will let the tint place do it luckily the precut out only cost $14.

 

Looks good heyarms. Wouldn't it have been easier to take out the light to spray? Seems like it would take a long time to tape it up.

Anyways, you guys should just spray it instead of the film. It will come out perfect and you can easily remove it.

 

+1 for removing the light and spraying it. Over spray can travel a distance.

 

I recommend getting them sprayed as i just had a professional tinter do mine and in the shop they looked great but out in the sun it looked like *** and was a waste of $75, $50 for tinter to put on and $25 for the kit and ripped it off an hour later. Im gonna have my painter blow them with black clear for a nice shiny look.

 

i would like to get my tail lights smoked out with that shiny looking tint just like "heyarms" above..

I'd still recommend VHT unless you can mix up some black gloss and clear gloss together.

Mine faded out to be pretty light after about 12-18 months (thankfully).
