Default Powdercoating my Wheels..

Hey Guys, I have decided to powdercoat the face of my wheels the color of my car. Just wanted some quick thoughts.

1. I want to just do the face and leave the lip machined, or would you guys do the face and lip?

2. I want it SGM, the color of my car but I am going to use powder they already have inhouse. Should i do it a gunmetal color or use more of a darker color to look more the color of the car. Here are the rims i have.

I got quoted $100 bucks a wheel here in the Nashville area. Ive come to the conclusion that that is about normal. This company is supposed to be really good.

Is powercoating supposed to be extra durable?

I got mine powdercoated for 85 a wheel...matte black. lips too. I think the general consensus is that its supposed to be pretty durable. I've also heard stories of it chipping off relatively easy. I guess it depends on who does the work. For instance, I smashed into a HUGE pothole denting the wheel and causing the tire to go flat....powdercoating looked just fine.

It will be way more durable against the elements, but remember your heating up a metal so the powdercoating process will weaken the metal.

Ya the guy at the shop told me it was wayyy more durable than paint, I think im leaning towards more of a SGM color. Also what do you guys think about leaving the lip or painting it.

I was second guessing myself when I got my lips done too, but lemme tell you....it looks sick. I had them keep the mock chrome lockers as well as the lexus symbol custom molded into the center caps is chrome as well.

Touches of chrome in other spots and the lip flat black is a GOOD look for lighter colored cars.

Anyone could go buy some rims with a black face and chrome lips...dime a dozen. Its not very often you see completely murdered out wheels. I thinks its pretty cool how the tire and wheel almost become one.

Does the powder coating include sandblasting? If it includes sandblasting 100 is a good price.
