Unhappy Engine Bay pushpin problem

Alright, this is my last resort after having googled my search as I'm embarassed to ask. After having released the pushpins that hold down the covers for the engine bay, I can't figure out how to relock the pushpin. I've put the engine bay covers back on and then the pushpins in hopes that the pushpins would "self-lock" after I reinitiated them into the hole, but nothing. Those pushpins sit idle in the holes with no reaction as though mocking me at my inability to convince them how to relock themselves. I have to show these pins that I'm still the master of the domain. So how do I do it?

before putting the pushpins back in, you have to reset them. Push the pin from the bottom until it pops out on top, so when you reinsert them back in to the engine covers, you will have a button to press to lock it back in.

If you're still stuck, look in your owners manual, you'll find pictures/diagrams illustrating what giantdefy described.

easiest way to "reset them is" grab it by the edges and push down on a flat surface. it should pop up with ease.
