Just curious, was her VIN number outside the range in the TSB? I have a 2010 IS250 that has been trouble-free so far, and is outside the TSB VIN range (supposedly has the fix off the assembly line), but I am constantly checking back on this thread to see if anyone with a VIN outside the range (mid 2010 or beyond) has experienced carbon buildup related issues. Thanks for any feedback.

On a side note, this is hilarious from the Hyundai Sonata Owner Manual for their GDI engine - add fuel additive

That's awesome. They should add "clean bugs off to maintain airflow dynamics"

Yeah, the fuel add thing is weird since I'd assume fuel never touches the upper intake valve on that car any more than it does on the IS250

I think higher octane rating probably is not required on the Hyundai than Lexus therefore the fuel addictive probably helps on performance and emission control on the car.

I'm curious will you guys buy another car with ONLY direct injection system, not mixed port + direct?
I was shopping and I made sure I bought a car with old school port injection.

I'm pretty sure the direct injection should improve on the future vehicles with different engine design. The design on the 4GR-FSE engine was almost 10 yrs ago.

I will if they figure out a way to avoid all the carbon build up issues, otherwise no I wouldn't buy another direct injected car again.

IDK her vin #. She didn't notice any problems till 25k? I think I read on here there was also a 2011 owner who has the same problems. UPDATE! Her car is going back to dealership. It's shaking and sometimes the idle acts funny. The reverse was also acting up but not anymore. She was wondering about this LEMON LAW? What should we do if the dealership screws this up again? Contact corporate? She really likes this car but hates the problems.

Lemon law doesn't apply if nothing happened before 24,000 miles

http://www.ncdoj.gov/consumer/automo...lemon-law.aspx

Even if it did they'd have to have failed to repair the same problem at least 4 or more times.

2 ways to get that done:
1. No recirculation of exhaust gases will keep the intake clean
2. Combine direct + port injection

Default Manual Valve Cleaning

This past 4th of July I manually cleaned my valves. I don't know how bad carbon buildup is on your vehicles, but some VW/Audi engines are plagued with this.

^^ Nice! I'm trying to get pics of the carbon build up on mine that the dealer discovered 1,000 miles past the piston replacement. Will post them up if I can get them!
