How many Aisin models do you know of?????
As far as I know the AY6 is the only manual transmission employed by Lexus.

The manual transmission in the IS250 is a truck tranny. Kurtz could shed more light on this

IIRC the IS250 gets the RA-62 transmission

Yup, source here:

RA-62 for IS250 manual

if it is a truck tranny, shouldn't a truck tranny be up to the task for more power?

If it was from the Tundra, sure.

It's from the Tacoma however.

I would imagine if you tried to do a manual swap on the 350, it would render alot of the cars useless becuase im pretty sure it wont comply well with he ECU. If you really want power and "Manual", go with an F. Draw back is its clutch-less, but computers are better at using the clutch than we are

Lack of a manual clutch is a major plus- the F shifts way faster than anybody could if they had to use their feet to do it.

Anyway, on the RA62, Lobuxracer was posting details about it's shortcomings back in 2006-
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/2185310-post29.html

It hasn't gotten any better since.

(and you're right, you'd have major problems with the ECU going "Uh, WTF is my transmission??" if you tried swapping one into a 350).

Manuals are antiques, time to get with this century. They're slower, they get worse mileage than modern autos, etc

Thats an opinion and nothing more.....Conversely IMO manuals are much more engaging and 'fun' to drive. If u need convincing check out acceleration times of any honda manvs. auto.
Current acceleration times and mpg are more a testament to the QUALITY of manuals on the market not because theyre inherently worse.

RA-62 for IS250 manual

Ummmm yeah.....thats actually made by Aisin ...for the last time...

BTW in application the transmissions (tacoma vs. is 250) arent exactly identical....Other cars that use this 'truck' transmission are : chevy camaro, cadillac cts, and more......

no. almost everyone knows manual get less mileage and can wear over time and no human can ever swift as fast AND perfect as a computer will for miles upon miles. if you dont believe this, then your just in denial.

However, i will agree that they are much more fun. if your going to track your car, a manual is going to give you a blast. an auto will give you that tiny bit of edge and a better timeslip, but you have to decide if you want that .0X seconds or those 2 mins of fun on the track. Either way both transmissions does what its suppose to and to say one is better than the other is incorrect

How does imply that theyre better and manuals are a way of the past???
I dont get it. Its based on preference and habit. My point earlier is that there are some real good manuals available which perform better in some aspects than autos.

oh, rly? name ONE.

okay, maybe i'll give you the is250 manual transmission, but even then the auto tranny in the is250 is still pretty damn efficient.

on the other hand, i can name several automatic transmissions that outshine/outperform manual counterparts.

in case you haven't noticed, modern automatic transmissions have become so efficient that they are making manuals a novelty.

btw, this makes for good reading. maybe you should take your discussion to that thread.
