Hello everyone! I'm new here because I just got my Lexus and look forward to learning from you experts. I called around to get XM installed and got quoted anywhere from $600-850. I found a local car audio place that said he could put Sirius in for $300. SOLD! Well, I should have done homework first, I guess. I have no text. Text works on the radio, just not with the SAT. I took it back to the installer and they tried to get it to work setting the dip switches (according to TOY-SC1 this can be done) and couldn't. Apparently, it doesn't work with the IS display because I don't have NAV or at least that is what they said.
Did I just waste $310 and have to live with no text? Is there any other option other than going with a complete new install? Such as replacing the TOY-SC1 with something else? I think that was $100 or $140 so if I have to eat the cost of that, I guess it's not that bad. I'm pretty upset as this is one of the points to having satellite radio. Thanks so much! I really appreciate any thoughts.

Sat radio without text? No way. Ask for ALL of your money back. The guy shouldn't have sold it to you if it wasn't going to work properly. If XM is what you really want, there are XM adapters on eBay and from VAIS that will fully integrate with your radio and support text.

Get your money back. ALL of it.
Then call Sewell lexus and order the OEM XM kit.
it's less than $300, and you can install it yourself. It's 100% plug and plug and goes in your trunk, and will display text on your OEM display just like it would if you'd gotten it from the factory that way.

Cool, thanks. After reading what you wrote, I called. He is giving me my money back. I just found the part on Sewell. It's $339. I think I found the right one. More than I paid total for the Sirius, but better than the $600-850 I was quoted.

Sirius sound is inferior to XM IMHO, so you did well by going back and getting rid of the Sirius. Plus, I've found that XM is more willing to give good deals while Sirius sticks to their prices.
